Taking our child in the bathroom is one of the most scrupulous tasks. Accidents could happen if we are less attentive to the details. Having kids around also adds to the potential risks and accidents that may be encountered inside your bathrooms. But we can avoid trouble if we follow these safety tips beforehand.
Keep away hazardous items
Basically, anything that could be tasted or swallowed must be kept hidden like hair dyes, shampoos, soaps, mouthwash and toothpaste. Place them on your countertop or better yet, install wall cabinets or attach your bathroom organized onto the wall to prevent your children from possibly playing with these bathroom essentials.
Keep sharp objects such as razors, scissors and nail clippers locked in a cabinet. Medicines and cosmetics must be placed high enough out of children’s reach.
Get rid of molds and mildews
Mold sits in moist areas. As adults, we often do not notice it, but our child has a closer view of the ground. They can easily spot molds. More so, it could grow on bath stuffs. If the child swallowed their hands with molds, he could suffer from tummy sores, vomiting and fever.
Be mindful on corners, sinks and bathtub when cleaning. Keep the space well ventilated. You could have timber venetians instead of curtains for your windows inside bathrooms to allow fresh air and sunlight to enter. Hang towels to keep it dry and replace bath mats often.
Unplug electric appliances after use
Electric shavers and curling irons could burn skins, or worse, it could cause electric shock when it falls into the water. Never ever leave them unattended. Unplug them and put them away after using. You can hang them on hooks attached to the wall or locked them inside high cabinets or locked drawers.
Test the water temperature first
Set the hot water not higher than 48 degrees C. Tap the cold water first when filling the tub. The water must be lukewarm. Never attempt to leave your kids while bathing because they might accidentally reach for something to worse, turn the water temperature to high without your knowledge.
Obviously, it would only take seconds to burn the child’s skin and we don’t want that to happen. So test the water before placing the child in the bathtub.
Always keep the floor dry
Bathroom floors are slippery. Always keep it dry and use non-slip mats. A rubber mat is best when drying off the uncoordinated child. Wipe the child’s feet as well when you take him out of the tub to prevent falls. You could also elevate your shower areas to prevent water from spilling onto your bathroom floors.
Take off possible steps and ladders
Children are always curious, finding objects that they can play with. They could use chairs and washing hampers for climbing. Better remove all items that could aid them to climb. It would also be safer if you could place safety gates onto your bathroom doors to prevent children from entering the area.
Every corner of our house is a playground for our kids. And we cannot watch them all the time. The best way is to keep them safe with all the precautionary measures we could probably think of. Keeping an eye on them, at all times may not be possible, but having a guardian to look after them, most of the time especially during bathing is very important.
